Notable improvements have been made to Lila Swaim Park, including resurfacing the drive, tennis courts, and expanding the stage.
Jonesville Town Manager Scott Buffkin said prior to the resurfacing of the tennis courts, the courts were damaged to the degree that grass and weeds were growing through multiple cracks and the courts were not safe for use.
“We were at the point where we had to do something about fixing them or do away with them, and the board took the step to make them usable again,” said Scott Buffkin, Jonesville town manager.
The surfacing of the tennis courts have now been repaved, but painting will be held off until Spring.
“We are planning on waiting until Spring to repaint the stripes and put up the nets,” Buffkin said. “From talking to the folks who do that sort of work, they say the paint will adhere better and will last longer if we wait until the surface is warmer.”
Lila Swaim Park has also expanded it’s stage.
“We’ve added on to the stage, nearly doubling the size of stage facility,” he said. “That project was funded by a grant by Warehouser Foundation so we are very appreciate of their assistance in making that stage project a reality.”
Buffkin said the Town of Jonesville s considering more improvements at Lila Swaim and will have a public hearing in the Spring to discuss further developments.
