An emotional dedication ceremony was held Saturday at the newly completed Habitat for Humanity home of Angela Hernandez and her two children.
Several volunteers and board members of Upper Yadkin Valley Habitat for Humanity were in attendance at the celebratory event. The service included a presentation of the Bible by Habitat volunteer, Rev. Calvin Bryant of Jonesville, as well as a presentation of the keys by Claire Sellars, executive director of Upper Yadkin Valley Habitat for Humanity.
Hernandez stood by her daughter Audrey, 14, and son Travon, 16, as she thanked all the volunteers and board members for their on-going help and support.
Sellars said working with the Hernandez family has been a joy.
“Angela and her kids have been enthusiastic and hardworking partners from the time they started building the house, to helping with the Habitat Hammer 5k, to planting with Habitat volunteers,” Sellars said.
Hernandez plans to close on the house Friday. “We will meet with lawyers on Friday, and I hope to move in right after that,” she said with excitement. “If I can’t get it all done Friday, I want to move in Saturday at the latest!”
