Elkin High School honored its Career and Technical Education program and inducted its newest National Technical Honor Society members Monday at a ceremony in Dixon Auditorium.
CTE Director Barbara Long welcomed parents, students, faculty, and community members by saying “Today is a celebration of some of the great things happening here at Elkin High School in our Career and Technical Education program.”
Maggie Jenkins Simmons was the keynote speaker for the event. Jenkins Simmons is an Elkin native and 2004 graduate of Elkin High School. She is a graduate of Appalachian State University and currently works for the Surry County Health and Nutrition Center.
Simmons was a national winner of the Future Business Leaders of America competition and a former State FBLA Officer. She spoke to the audience about the importance of CTE and credited it for her success in life.
Following the introductions, the awards were announced and presented, with names reading across a PowerPoint presentation on stage.
