ELKIN - Area track and field athletes dominated the Mountain Valley Conference all-conference teams when the conference released the lists last week.

Twenty-eight male athletes from Elkin, Forbush, Starmount and East Wilkes garnered recognition from the MVAC, led by 10 from the Elks and Falcons apiece.

Powered by 800-meter state champion Zach Millsaps, Elkin reached double-digits in selections after capturing the conference crown in April. Millsaps was joined by Aaron Defreitas, Jamiles Hayes, Dakota King, Tre King, Cuauthli Lozada, Coley McCulloch, Nick Phillips and Brandon Welborn on the all-conference team.

Hayes and McCulloch also earned an honorable mention in a second event, alongside Kody King.

Head coach Scott Wood was awarded with the coach of the year after guiding the Elks to the conference championship and a bronze medal at the 1A Midwest Regionals.

Forbush’s honorees were headlined by male track athlete of the year Casey Evans.

Evans, who finished fourth in the 400 meter dash and fifth in the 100 meter dash at the 2A state championships, was joined by Zach Andrews, Dylan Andrade, Alec Faircloth, Jared Gallion, Nevin Gentry, Eduardo Lozano-Gomez, Ben Underwood and Ben Wall on the all-conference list. Jacob Rucker was named an honorable mention.

Starmount placed two athletes on the all-conference lists in Fondae McDaniel and James Tucker. The duo was joined by Adam Beavers, Marco Fuentes, John Johnson, Will Lambert, Ivan de la Torre, who were named as honorable mentions.

East Wilkes’ lone honoree was Abram Logan, who was named an honorable mention.
