Auditions to be held for A Christmas Story
by Lizzie Morrison
Director of Arts

Auditions for the stage version of the popular movie “A Christmas Story” will be held on Monday and Tuesday evenings, October 15 and 16 at 6:30 pm at the Andy Griffith Playhouse.

John Adams will be directing the show, assisted by Stan Bernstein. Adams is new to directing community theatre productions in Mount Airy, but he is not new to directing. John, a commercial director, moved to Mount Airy from Los Angeles in 2010 with his wife Julie, a wardrobe stylist. He is currently teaching at the film school at UNC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem.

Auditions are for at least 11 cast members ranging from adult males (ages 30-50), adult females (ages 30-50), Ralphie’s little brother (age 6-8 in appearance), Ralphie (10-12 in appearance), Ralphie’s teacher, Ralphie’s friends, and Farkas, a meanie and bully (age 13-15 in appearance). No preparation is needed for auditions although watching the movie is recommended. Set, props, costume, stage, and technical crew volunteers are invited to attend auditions.

The Surry Arts Council will be presenting “A Christmas Story” at the Andy Griffith Playhouse on Friday, December 14th at 7:00 pm, and on Saturday and Sunday December 15th and 16th at 3:00 pm. Having won over audiences across the nation, this Christmas classic comedy with Ralphie Parker and his friends and family, will make their Mount Airy debut.

The Andy Griffith Playhouse is located at 218 Rockford Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Please call the Surry Arts Council 336-786-7998 with questions or for additional information.
