Runners will be lacing up for a 5K cross-country race at Grassy Creek Vineyard and Winery on Saturday to benefit The Ark homeless shelter in Elkin.
Grassy Creek Vineyard and Winery has partnered with the other Surry County Wineries to host a Vineyard Stomp 5K race series. The Vineyard Stomp is a series of four cross-country runs through and around wineries and vineyards. Saturday’s race will kick off the series and is hosted by Brushy Mountain, Slightly Askew and Grassy Creek wineries, with all proceeds benefiting The Ark.
The race, which is appropriate for runners of all abilities, begins at 11 a.m., with on-site registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. Pre-registration is available for each race in the series or the entire race series at www.active.com. Each race is $32 ($28 early registration) or $99 for the race series.
Following the race is a 1K Wine Walk through the vineyard to sample wines from the hosts wineries. The Wine Walk is free to registered runners and $15 for non-runners. Rum Train Friday will play from 4-6 p.m. Non-runners are invited to come out Saturday and enjoy the music or stop by the tasting room from 12-6 p.m.
Other race dates in the series are Aug. 4 at Stony Knoll Vineyards, Sept. 15 at Olde Mill Vineyards, and Oct. 27 at Round Peak Vineyards.
