What a perfect warm mid-summer evening last Friday for the Foothills Arts Council’s Garden Gala.
With live music from Not Your Ordinary Cornbread and McRitchie Winery on hand pouring, the gallery exhibit featured celtic prints by Brian Johnson and the garden was filled with many friends and supporters of the local art community.
In addition to the party and gallery opening, an art drawdown was held to help raise money to go toward the electrical upgrades made to the garden last fall.
Big winners in the drawdown were Jane Motsinger who won a live oil sketch done by William Sanders during the party, up on the porch, for everyone to watch; Dave George who won a gift certificate from Jennifer Kleinheksel Photography; Jane and Richard Dale who won a celtic print by artist Brian Johnson; Courtney Snyder who won a framed print by John Furches; and Pat Colwell who won a canvas photo print by Erik Dahlager.
The art council’s garden angels — those who gave specifically for the electrical project — were recognized: Skip and Diane Whitman, Fred and Jane Eidson, Frank and Jeanette Hendrick, Debbie Carson and Chris Groner, Foothills Theatre, Erik Dahlager, Richard and Ann Merlo, Harry and Pat Seay, Ann and Ron Ashman, Mack and Avis Hendrick, Clyde and Sue Shook, Eris and Robert Ball, Leighanne Martin Wright, LeAnne and Jack Mantero, and Mary and Tom Mascenik.
The arts council’s board for the new fiscal year includes new members: Kim Arnold, Lyndsey Ballard, Jennifer Kleinheksel, Cory Myers, Louise Neaves, Will Shover and Courtney Snyder. Debra Garing and Allison Leeds accepted a second term and Rosy Beverley and Gladys Morrison will now serve as Emeritus board members. The 2012-2013 executive committee is Eris Ball, president; Kimberly Seipel-Parks, vice president programming; Pam Mickey, vice president facility; Frank Hendrick, treasurer; Kim Arnold, secretary; and Debbie Carson, past president.
Coming up at the arts council is the one day children look forward to all year - KidsFest on Saturday, July 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. This year’s theme is “Atlantis Under the Sea” and there will be plenty of water with games, a water slide, the sound of a water paradise with Pandemic Steel Drum Band back again, food, and of course art activities. And all free for children!
We will be having some fantastic give-aways and door prizes — four tickets to Wet-N-Wild water park in Greensboro, a one-night stay at the Fairfield Inn and Suites, tickets to the Foothills Theatre summer musical “Annie Get Your Gun” and more.

The Foothills Arts Council is kicking off its annual membership drive. Individual and corporate memberships represent 25 percent of our operating budget.
