A job offering at Cracker Barrel in Jonesville was what brought John Prigmore to the area, but he’s made a much bigger impact on the community since.
In 2003, Prigmore became general manager at Jonesville’s Cracker Barrel.
“I could have taken a Cracker Barrel position almost anywhere, but I chose Jonesville because it just felt right. I Googled the area, and I knew it was a good place, and I wanted my boys to grow up in a small town,” Prigmore said.
After 41 years in the restaurant business, Prigmore decided to make both a career and a lifestyle change, and became involved with Upper Yadkin Valley Habitat for Humanity while also working part-time at Fiddles Pub.
He said his part-time job at Fiddles keeps him connected to his ‘restaurant roots’ and also to the community, but his more notable involvement has been with Habitat for Humanity.
In January Prigmore became a member of the Board of Directors for Upper Yadkin Valley Habitat for Humanity, and he is now the store manager.
“You get in your 50s and it becomes more about priorities,” he said. “My priorities are my relationships. I’m putting God first, and then family, and work comes last.”
Prigmore says he also has a passion for Habit for Humanity.
“I experience God’s presence every day in others, and He is very present here at Habitat for Humanity,” Prigmore said. “I experience Him through volunteers, through people who donate, through co-workers, and through what we are able to do here. It is very powerful and awesome.”
Prigmore is also very involved with his church, Elkin Presbyterian, where he serves as a leader of a Sunday School class and a prayer group.
Prigmore said he is very thankful that his life led him to the Elkin-Jonesville area.
“I found a home with a bunch of wonderful folks,” he said. “I love this life, and I wish I’d been here years and years ago.”
