Early reports point to a vehicle as the culprit of a fire Tuesday afternoon on Lomax Street behind Aaron’s on CC Camp Road.
The fire damaged a vehicle and two trailers before firefighters were able to stop its progress.
Elkin Fire Department’s Chief Tommy Wheeler said the initial response was to a vehicle fire. That spread to the trailer where the vehicle was parked and to the one next to it.
“When we arrived on the scene both structures were involved in fire,” Wheeler said. “That’s all I know for sure.”
The fire spread from the vehicle to the trailer where it was parked, but also burned the neighboring trailer.
The Elkin Fire Department, Elkin Rescue Squad, Elkin Police Department, and the Pleasant Hill Fire Department responded to the fire as onlookers stood in the nearby parking lots and watched the smoke boil out from under the tin roof.
One firefighter stopped to rest around 4:15 p.m. and said they had been working on the site since approximately 2:30 p.m.
