HAYS - It was a tale of two halves for the Lady Elks Monday night against unbeaten North Wilkes.

Elkin held the Vikings’ high-powered offense in check for two quarters, trailing just 23-13 at the half. But North exploded in the second, pouring in 48 points after the break to cruise to the 71-32 victory.

The Elks forced 10 turnovers in the first half and held North, who came into the game averaging 70.1 points per contest in their last four games, to just 23 points in the half.

But the Vikings found their stroke after halftime, dropping 21 and 27 points in the final two quarters, respectively, to pull away from Elkin.

In a balanced scoring night, no player score in double-figures. Makayla Dimmette, Madeline Carter and Courtney Beals led the way with six points apiece, while Carrie Brown and Ashlen Rector added five points each. Kaitlin Faw tacked on four points.

The Lady Elks (0-9) return to the court Tuesday night against Alleghany still searching for their first win of the season. Elkin hung tough against the Trojans in the teams’ first meeting this season, falling late in the fourth, 51-34.
