MILLERS CREEK - The Buckin’ Elks will be looking to rebound in a crucial Week Seven matchup.

Elkin, coming off last Friday’s Battle of the Bridge loss to Starmount, head up the mountain to Millers Creek to take on West Wilkes in a huge 1A showdown.

The Elks sit in fifth place after the loss at 2-3 overall and 1-2 in the Mountain Valley Conference, trailing the Blackhawks (3-3, 3-1) by two games for the top 1A seed. North Wilkes (2-4, 2-2) and East Wilkes (1-5, 1-3) are in the hunt in the crowded standings.

Elkin’s defense, which held Starmount to just 10 points in the first half of last Friday’s game, can use that as a positive heading into its matchup with West.

Coming off last Friday’s first win of the season over North Wilkes, East travels up to Alleghany in search of its second ‘W’.

With the the pressures of getting into the win column off their backs, the Cardinals can focus on football and getting back into the 1A race.

Senior tailback Dalton Key (304 yards, three scores last week) will look to continue leading the East offensive charge against the Trojans.

The undefeated Starmount Rams are idle this week in their only bye week of the season. Starmount returns to action next Friday when they head up to Millers Creek to take on West Wilkes.

All games kick off around the Yadkin Valley at 7:30 p.m.
