Charge: Assault with deadly weapon, inflict serious injury

Details: Charles David Overman, 32, of Durham, was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and inflicting serious injury.

Charge: Concealment of merchandise

When reported: Oct. 17 at 1:41 p.m.

Location: Walmart

Details: Jennifer Lauren Poplin, 29, of Yadkinville, was charged with concealment of merchandise. A loss prevention officer at Walmart observed Poplin taking a bottle of computer duster off the shelf and putting in her mouth and inhaling the vapors into her mouth, according to an Elkin Police Department incident report. She then put the can back on the shelf and tried to leave the store.

Charge: Defrauding the innkeeper

When reported: Oct. 18 at 7:58 a.m.

Location: 100 block of Bonaire Road

Details: Kristin Mosely Ho, 40, of Elkin, was charged with defrauding the innkeeper. Officers responded to a call from a taxi driver the suspect had called at 6 a.m. to pick her up, according to an incident report. When the driver called and said he was at her home she told him it would be a few more minutes. After she delayed coming out to the taxi car several times, the driver called the police department. They responded to the home and found Ho very intoxicated, and she had to pay the driver the $120 that she owed him for his time, according to the incident report. She was cited with defrauding the innkeeper.

Charge: Possession of drug paraphernalia

When reported: Oct. 21 at 7:11 p.m.

Location: North Bridge Street

Details: Christopher Blaine Settle, 20, of Ronda, was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after officers responded to the location in response to a civil dispute. Officers found two syringes and a bottle of liquid hydrocodone that was prescribed on him.
