Pier's Clothing, 108 Court Street, offers mens and women's sport clothing and shoes, along with a few selections of children's tee-shirts.
"We're just getting started and have more selections coming in the women's line of sport clothing," Antawain Stanley, store manager said. "We have mens shoes, shorts, and shirts in stock now with more coming. We will be carrying sport and casual wear."
The store is owned by Carlos King, a native from Jonesville. King played football for Starmount High School and then for N. C. State University. King also played football professionally with the Pittsburgh Steelers for two years and then transferred to the Denver Broncos. Unfortunately, while in training camp with the Broncos, King experienced an ankle injury that took him out of pro ball. He owns a successful HVAC cleaning business in Cary, where he makes his home.
"I didn't see anything here in my home area that provided a place for residents to purchase quality sportswear," King said. "The lines we've chosen to carry are quality and popular choices. Anyone wanting to purchase the same type of sportswear would have to drive to Winston-Salem or another location for their purchases before.
"We hope to provide the area with great deals and at the same time, create a couple of jobs in the area," King said.
King grew up in Jonesville and still has many family ties with brothers, aunts and uncles and cousins.
"I wanted to do something in the area," King said. "I hope and think that our prices are comparable to the stores in the malls and hopefully if we're able to expand in the future, we can bring more jobs to the area."
Pier's Clothing was named after Kings mother. The shop is open 12 - 6 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday and 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. For more information, call 244-2629.
