Gentlemen, you may shut off your engines.

The last Cruise-In of the season was this Saturday, bringing out classic cars owners and lovers to celebrate the end of summer.

After cruising left Elkin in the 1990s, this summer’s Cruise-Ins began in June to help raise money for the Reeves Theater through t-shirt sales.

Classic car lovers responded well to each event, bringing out over 100 cars to show case and drive during the events.

One driver gave one of Vicky Roberts, co-organizer of the event, a letter that said, “You sponsored three cruise-ins and brought back fun and family entertainment that has been so disappointingly missing for many of us ‘cruisers.’ Thanks for taking us back to a time when cruising was the thing to do, was good for business and kept communities and towns in touch with each other.”

Roberts said she has received positive feedback from several others, including the police department who said they had not had any complaints.

Cruise-Ins will return next summer, starting in May and continuing through August.
