BOONVILLE - Starmount took a break from Mountain Valley Conference action this weekend and dominated at tri-match with East Surry and Hickory Saturday.
In the first match against East, the Lady Rams battled to a 25-23 win in the first set before breezing to the sweep, 25-9, 25-15.
Reigning MVAC Player of the Year Ashton Gregory powered Starmount with 11 kills and three blocks against the Cardinals, while Hunter Welborn and Haley Hartman added eight and seven kills each. Hartman was 14-for-14 on her serves with 10 digs.
Rachel Wagoner added six kills and nine digs, while Erin Barr recorded 28 assists, seven kills and four service aces.
Against 3A Hickory, Starmount topped the Red Tornadoes in two sets, 25-12, 25-9.
Gregory recorded eight kills and nine blocks, with Hartman adding 10 kills and nine digs. Alli St. John was 26-for-26 with nine service ace, while Wagoner went 17-for-17 on her serves with three kills and seven digs. Barr racked up a dozen blocks and 26 assists in the second match.
The Lady Rams improved to 5-3 on the season, including a perfect 3-0 in conference play.
In Elkin, the Lady Elks dropped two matches against Surry Central and East Wilkes.
Against the Cardinals, Elkin won the first set 29-27 before losing three-straight sets (25-13, 25-21, 25-19) to fall.
The Golden Eagles swept Elkin on Monday, 25-14, 25-22, 25-8.
The Lady Elks travel to Starmount Thursday in volleyball’s rendition of the Battle of the Bridge.
