On the heels of a storm that’s impacted the area, Monday’s storm system brought in heavy rain, damaging winds, and power outages leaving Elkin residents wet and in the dark.

“I went to bed at 10 p.m., and my lights still were not on,” said Lynee Brooks of Elkin.

According to Duke Energy spokeswoman Erin Culbert, the power outage was identified and noted at the Elkin retail sub station.

“A transformer blew, affecting 280 Elkin residents,” said Culbert. “The first power outage happened at approximately 7:12 p.m. and all power was restored by 11:19 p.m.
