CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The break North Carolina drivers got on gas prices earlier this summer is gone.
According to a AAA Carolinas release, for the first time this summer motorists are paying more for a gallon of gas than they did on the same day a year ago.
The price Wednesday was $3.63 a gallon, two cents more than it was on Aug. 15 last year. Gas prices are also up from $3.18 a gallon on July 4, the lowest price in North Carolina this year.
The increase has been fueled by the expanding economy increasing demand, predictions of more hurricanes than average and uncertainty over oil supplies in the Middle East, according to a AAA Carolinas release.
