Editor’s note: This is a part of a series of profile stories for career and technical education students.

Megan Hampton is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) participant; yearbook editor at Elkin High School; a part-time employee at an architectural firm; a Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) reporter.

Called a “smart and very hard working lady who is extremely self-motivated” by Elkin CTE Director Barbara Long, Hampton is making plans for college as she approaches the end of her senior year of high school. She plans to enroll at Surry Community College and pursue a double major in both Information Technology and Graphic design.

She credits her time and work as yearbook editor with helping her decide graphic design was the career for her.

Thanks to her list of CTE courses at Elkin High, she will be able to use articulated credit (courses at high school will count as college courses) toward her post-secondary education. In addition to these, her AP and Honors courses will also count toward her time at Surry Community.

Megan has taken Foods I and II, Parenting and Child Development, Computer Applications I, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Publisher, Multimedia and Web page Design, E-Commerce I, and CTE Advanced Studies during her high school career. She is also certified as a Microsoft Office Specialist in both Microsoft Word and PowerPoint 2010, a credential that is recognized by the business world, thanks to her business class.According to Long, Megan has taken most of the busniess courses offered at Elkin.

Megan is a competitor for the FBLA as well as a reporter. She placed third in the Business Communications competition at the Northwest Regional FBLA meeting. She will be among the competitors at the State conference in April 2013 as well.
