Prepare to throw toast and dress in crazy costumes.

The 1975 cult classic “Rocky Horror Picture Show” is coming to the Reeves Theater to help celebrate Halloween.

“I planned the event with college students in mind but have gotten more responses from 40 year olds who remember going to see it in college,” said Gary Maxey, member of the Reeves Restoration Board of Directors. “I’ve been amazed by the response we’ve gotten.”

“Rocky Horror Picture Show” screenings were popular in Maxey’s home state of Illinois, and he wanted to expose people in the area who had never been to a showing.

“I wanted to bring something fun and different than not everyone is doing,” Maxey said. “We’ve held blues and gospel events, things for children and now I wanted to do something for college aged students.”

Along with the film showing, the audience is invited to follow along with the rituals that go along with the cult film. Some of these include:

-Covering heads with newspapers when the main characters are caught in a storm.

-Throwing rice for the newlyweds married at the beginning of the movie.

-Throwing burnt toast when the characters give a toast during dinner.

-Putting on a party hat when the character Frank, puts on a party hat.

“Of the participation parts in the film, we ask the audience not to throw raw food, like hot dogs, or to have an open flame,” Maxey said. “We will also be giving out cash prizes for the best Rocky Horror character costume.”

Along with the movie showing, the fourth annual Reeves Haunted Theater will be starting as well. However, neither the film nor the haunted house is for children.

Also in October, the Reeves Theater will be taking part in the Art Crawl on Oct. 19 and Time Sawyer and Porch Dog Revival will be performing from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Oct. 20.

“Rocky Horror Picture Show” will be shown at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 19, and Friday, Oct. 26, and admission is $5.

The Reeves Haunted Theater is $5 and will be open Saturday, Oct. 20; Thursday, Oct. 25; Friday, Oct. 26; Saturday, Oct. 27 and Wednesday, Oct. 31.
