The ‘Pocketful of Posies’ exhibit continues at the Foothills Art Council through February 22nd.

The Foothills Arts Council continues to havea steady stream of spectators for its exhibit of “Pocketful of Posies.”

The traveling exhibit features the photographed works of nationally known author Salley Mavor. The exhibit continues through February 22nd and it’s already broken an attendance record.

“To celebrate our most-visited exhibit, we will be having a second chance reception on Friday, Feb. 15 from 5-7 p.m.,” said Leighanne Martin Wright, the council’s executive director. “There is no charge to visit our gallery openings thanks to our many individual and business members, the Town of Elkin, Surry County and the NC Grassroots Arts Program.”

The gallery is open Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Meanwhile, in celebration of its 45 years on stage, Foothills Theatre will be holding auditions.

“The auditions are for its “extra helping” dessert theater production — ” A Savage Dilemma,” the sequel to last year’s hilarious “The Curious Savage,” said Wright. “Many of last year’s cast members will be reprising their roles for the sequel — Judy Deck as Mrs. Savage, Tommie Ann Tulbert as Florence, Gary Maxey as Hannibal, Newell Houser as Dr. Emmett, Julie Shaw as Mrs. Paddy. Auditions will be held for the remaining characters needed — Fairy May, Christine, Aloysius, Evangeline and the Officer.”

Auditions will be at the Foothills Arts Council at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 23 and at 6 p.m. on Sunday, February 24. Performances will be at the First Baptist Church Elkin fellowship hall April 12-14.

According to Wright, the story picks up after last year’s play with Mrs. Ethel Savage world-weary and depressed after extensive travels. She returns to the sheltering walls of The Cloisters to seek refuge with her former friends. But Dr. Emmett may have to close due to financial ruin and Mrs. Savage’s fortune is now in the hands of her stepchildren. A would-be gangster and the love of his life storm the home bent on robbery until Mrs. Savages concocts a plan for her kidnapping and subsequent payment of ransom that will save The Cloisters. But will it work?
