Many thanks go to the Traphill Fire Department who did so much work to make the annual Fourth of July Celebration a great success. Everyone enjoyed the good food, music, games, fellowship and the fireworks last Saturday night.

Derick Barker will be preaching at Garden Creek Baptist Church on Sunday at 9 a.m. Everyone is invited to worship in this historic church, especially campers in Stone Mountain State Park (camping clothes are fine). Don’t forget that the Longbottom Road is still closed due to a bridge replacement.

There will be a business meeting at Garden Creek Baptist Church on Saturday at 5 p.m. Everyone interested in keeping this historic church going is invited.

New books available to check out at the Traphill Branch Library include “Rush Revere and the American Revolution: Time-Travel Adventures with Exceptional Americans,” “Rush Revere and the Brave Pilgrims: Time-Travel Adventures with exceptional Americans,” “Rush Revere and the First Patriots,” and “Rush Revere and the Star Spangled Banner” by Rush Limbaugh, “Scandalous Behavior” by Stuart Woods, “A Spool of Blue Thread” by Anne Tyler, and “The Texas Ranger’s Secret” by DeWanna Pace.

A new DVD ready to check out is “The Martian.”

Summer Reading Program is under way at Traphill Branch Library. This year’s theme is On Your Mark, Get Set…READ! Call Brittney at the library at 336-957-3425 or check the library Facebook page to see what programs are scheduled. Animals of the Constellations will be on July 14 at 11 a.m.

Emily and Joseph Roberts enjoyed visiting with their families over the holiday weekend. They make their home in Knoxville, Tennessee, now.

Happy birthday wishes go to Olive Thomas on July 4; Clay Barnhill and Denise Kennedy on July 5; Hazel McCarter on July 7; Tony Johnson, LeAnn Bell, Randy Combs and Larry Sparks on July 8; Dennis McGrady and Trenton Shephard on July 9; and Mailon Nichols on July 10.

Happy anniversary wishes go to Carl and Amy Kennedy Billings, who celebrated their 24th anniversary on June 27; Jimmy and Ruby Johnson, who celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 30; Mitchell and Tammy Spicer, who celebrate their 23rd anniversary on July 7; and Lisa and Mac Warren, who celebrate their fifth anniversary on July 9.

Traphill had a low temperature of 63.8 degrees on June 29 and a high temperature of 88.1 degrees on July 2. There was 1.7 inches of rain in Traphill during the week of June 27-July 3.
