The ladies at White Rock United Methodist Church in Thurmond will have Port-A-Pit BBQ chicken on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. Plates will be $9 and a half chicken will be $5.

The Traphill Fire Department will be doing the annual Trick or Treat a little different this year. They have signed up several churches to have booths that will be placed around the walking track to give out treats. Not sure what time they will begin giving out treats but it’s probably around 6 p.m.

Jerry Sidden will be bringing a report about The Gideons at Garden Creek Baptist Church Sunday at 9 a.m. The church is now on the winter schedule of having service the first Sunday of the month, weather permitting. Everyone is invited to worship in this historic church within the boundaries of Stone Mountain State Park. Campers are encouraged to come as they are.

The Primitive Quartet from Candler will be in concert at Old Roaring River Baptist Church on the Longbottom Road on Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. The doors will open at 5 p.m. A love offering will be taken. For more information, call 336-957-0860.

The Friends of Traphill Branch Library still have a used book sale set up at the Traphill Tan & Tone on Traphill Road from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Stop by and check out some really great books.

New books available to check out at the Traphill Branch Library include “Dorothy Must Die” by Danielle Paige, “Dorothy Must Die Stories” by Danielle Paige, “Reawakened” by Colleen Houck and “Yellowstone Memories” by Jennifer Rogers Spinola.

New DVDs ready to check out include “The Spongebob Movie – Sponge out of Water,” “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” “The Ring,” “All Quiet on the Western Front,” “Girl with a Pearl Earring,” “The Shining,” “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” “20 Halloween Stories,” “The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” and “Beautiful Creatures.”

Congratulations to Amanda Johnson and Jonah Severt, who were married on Oct. 24.

Don Ray Royall celebrated his 81st birthday with family and friends last Saturday.

Matt and Betty Daye hosted Traphill Baptist Church with a weiner roast and hay ride over the weekend. Ronnie Richardson, Josh Hutchison and Jeff Prevette made music, and Charlene Cleary Burchette and her sister Darlene Cleary sang for them. The new pastor, Mike Caldwell, led a Bible study.

Ravonda Pruitt and Sheila Sidden spent last week at the beach. They missed their friend, Diane Wood, who was unable to go with them this trip.

Happy birthday wishes go to Isabella Stewart and Rachel Ferguson on Oct. 26; Margie Hutchison, Mandy Stewart and Tim Owens on Oct. 28; Erica Norman and Karen Pruitt on Oct. 29; Buck Garris and Patty Hutchison on Oct. 30; and Brandon McGuire on Oct. 31.

Happy anniversary wishes go to Faye and Roger Brown, who celebrate their 45th anniversary on Oct. 29; Bradley and Maranda Richardson, who celebrate their sixth anniversary on Oct. 30; and Betty and Fred Billings, who celebrate their 57th anniversary on Nov. 1.

Traphill had a low temperature of 32.1 degrees on Oct. 19 and a high temperature of 80.6 degrees on Oct. 23. There was only a sprinkle of rain in Traphill during the week of Oct. 19-25.

Don’t forget to set your clocks BACK Saturday night to return to Standard Time on Nov. 1. You can catch up that hour of sleep you lost last spring.
