HAYS — Chandler Bare picked up two hits and drove in two runs and Zach Crabb gave East Wilkes its second straight complete game as the Cardinals knocked off host North Wilkes, 5-2, Wednesday night.

With their second straight win, the Cardinals improve to 3-7 overall and 1-2 in the conference. “That’s a big win for us,” East Wilkes Coach Todd Welborn said. “It was our first conference win.”

“Last night we came out and we put two runs up early with some timely hits,” Welborn said Thursday. “We made a lot of contact last night. We hit some sharp balls that were to people.

“One thing that was disturbing is we left at least a dozen to 15 on base. We left the bases loaded twice.”

Levi Ray also had two hits. “He’s seeing the ball well for us,” Welborn said.

Jake McCoy knocked in two runs for the Cardinals with a hit.

Of Crabb’s performance, Welborn said, “He got into a couple of jams and as we expect of him as a senior, he pitched out of them.”

North Wilkes fell to 4-4; 1-1 in the conference.
