BOONVILLE — Starmount even its record at 2-2 with a 9-6 win over North Iredell.

Luke Shore was the winning pitcher. He also went 2-for-4 at the plate with a double. Other hitting stars for the Rams were Cody Whitaker (2-for-2 with a double) and Zach Freed (2-for-4). Caleb West also doubled for Starmount.

North Iredell fell to 1-3.

Men’s Tennis


Elkin 8, West Stokes 1: In Elkin, the Buckin’ Elks defeated West Stokes at Elkin Municipal Park.

The only Elkin loss came at No. 3 doubles as David Gravitt and Ethan Eilliott defeated Jarrett Patterson and Isaac Powell, 6-3.

In singles, No. 1 Ryan Schell defeated Andres Holmes, 10-0; No. 2, David Bullin defeated Andrew Spainhour, 10-0; No. 3, Chad Vestal defeated George Blankeknship, 6-1 (retired); No. 4, Jacob Lyon defeated Frank Sells, 10-1; No. 5 Matthew Schumak defeated Gravitt, 10-3; and No. 6, Reed Turner defeated Elliott, 10-7.

In the other two doubles matches, Bullin and Vestal defeated Holmes and Spainhour, 8-3; and Schell and Lyon defeated Blankenship and Sells, 6-1.

Elkin, now 2-0, is at Ashe County Tuesday.

Women’s Soccer


Elkin 0, Bishop McGuinness 0: In Elkin, Cheyenne Moses made 11 saves as the Lady Elks battled the Villains to a tie.

Both teams had three corners kicks in the game.

The Lady Elks, now 1-1-1, are off until March 25 when they host Alleghany. Bishop McGuinness is now 1-1-2.
