WEST JEFFERSON -Storm Long and Dylan Edwards will be in Greensboro for the North Carolina state wrestling championships this weekend.

“I’m super excited to have Storm and Dylan make it to states,” Forbush Coach Jeff Farmer said.

Long, wrestling at 132, and Edwards, at 195, both won 2A Midwest regional titles at Ashe County High School this past weekend.

Long, the top seed, defeated Morgan Bagley of South Stokes, 6-0, in the finals to claim his title. Along the way, he defeated Jibri Cowan of Salisbury and Cole Townsend of Monroe by pin and No. 5 Ian Rogers of Central Academy, 6-2.

Edwards, also a top seed, defeated No. 3 Anthony Brisano of Thomasville by fall in the finals after disposing of No. 8 Chad Talbert of West Davidson by pin (in 41 seconds) and No. 3 Luke Alexander of West Stanly, 4-1.

Isaac McMillan, who entered the meet at 43-1 and the top seed at 152, was upset in his second and third matches and did not finish in the top four needed to earn a berth in Greensboro.

“It just wasn’t Isaac’s weekend,” Farmer said. “A tremendous season for him. It’s disappointing for him, but he’s only a sophomore.”

“I thought all my guys wrestled hard,” Farmer said.

2A action began Thursday night and concludes with the championship matches Saturday.
