JEFFERSON — The Lady Elks took the lead early and never looked back in their 49-37 victory over Ashe Thursday.

The game, originally scheduled for Friday, was moved up a day due to forecast winter weather in the High Country.

The girls came on strong in the first quarter, leading 15-6 to end the period. Then again in the second quarter, Elkin topped the Lady Huskies, 11-7, ending the first half 26-13.

In the third quarter, Ashe stayed even with the Lady Elks, with scoring at 9-9. And in the fourth quarter, the Lady Huskies outscored Elkin by one, 15-14, but it wasn’t enough to make up for the deficit inflicted by Elkin in the first half.

The win leaves Elkin girls 11-11 overall and 5-6 in conference play. The Lady Huskies come out of the game 10-11, 4-7 in conference.
