The Forbush swim team members saved their best for last, recording team season-bests in all events except for one relay during state competition on Thursday.
The Forbush boys team finished 22nd, the girls 40th.
Austin Doub contributed strong performances by clinching two top ten finishes, and bettering state performances from last year. Doub clinched eighth in the 100-yard backstroke; and ninth in the 100-yard butterfly.
“Scoring comes at a premium at that level and it shows how much Doub has improved,”said Forbush Head Coach Mark Beuters.
Freshman Sierra Winters swam more events (four) than anyone on the team, stepping up to face the 500-yard freestyle first. Beuter said he was pleased Winters droppedher time in the 500-free and held on par in the 100 breast stroke under the pressure of a grueling schedule. Meris Bey finished 23rd in the 50-yard freestyle and also improved her time.
Beuter said overall he was pleased with the performances, and the team including the relays met his goal to have a good meet.
A highlight for the Forbush coach came when Elkin’s Tyler Eaton competed in the lane next to Doub in the state final heat of the 100-yard butterfly. The two friends from Yadkin County paced neck-in-neck in competition concluding the meet with top finishes clinching a ninth- and tenth-place.
“It was kinda cool to see that,” said Beuter.
