This week’s winter weather and canceling of classes for area students also meant the need to reschedule sporting events that were planned for Tuesday and Wednesday.
Four teams are set to wrestle tonight at South Stokes High School in Walnut Cove in an effort to finalize regular season matches before the conference tournament for the Western Piedmont scheduled for Saturday.
Forbush was set to host a tri-meet with North Forsyth, not a conference competitor, and North Surry Tuesday when the snow arrived in the region halting all sporting events.
So tonight, Forbush will make up its conference match-up with North Surry at South Stokes, reported Coach Jeff Farmer Thursday morning.
In addition, North Surry will wrestle Carver, and Carver will wrestle South Stokes. Surry Central will face West Stokes on the mats in King.
Starmount’s basketball teams were to play Ashe County in West Jefferson Tuesday, but those games also were canceled, as well as the school’s matchup with Wilkes Central that was set for Wednesday.
Coach Rocky Horton reported Wednesday evening that the Ashe County game was to be played Thursday, but with school being out Thursday, he said it could be moved to Saturday. The Wilkes Central game has been rescheduled for Monday at Starmount.
Elkin was to host West Wilkes at home Tuesday, but that game has been moved to Monday in Elkin, according to Coach Derrick Carter.
Several teams are scheduled to play tonight, and it was uncertain at press time if games would go on as planned or be delayed.
Elkin is slated to host Alleghany on the basketball court, and Starmount will host East Wilkes. Also, Forbush planned on hosting South Stokes in East Bend.
