BOONVILLE — Starmount’s Trey Bryant has been named The Tribune Defensive Player of the Year.
Bryant was one of the anchors of the Rams’ stingy defense that only allowed 11.7 points per game during Mountain Valley Conference action en route to a share of the league title and a berth in the fourth round of the 1AA state playoffs.
The junior finished near the top of the area standings in all defensive categories, including fourth with 98 total tackles and 12 tackles for loss. Bryant added six forced fumbles, six sacks and three fumble recoveries.
Honorable Mentions: Elkin’s Kody King (70 tackles, nine tackles for loss, four interceptions, 10 forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, one blocked punt), Starmount’s Josh Houser (78 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, seven sacks, four fumble recoveries, one forced fumble), Starmount’s Sawyer Davis (104 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, two sacks, two fumble recoveries) and Elkin’s Will Altemueller (100 tackles, six tackles for loss, one interception, two fumble recoveries).
