MAIDEN — Forbush had no answer for Maiden’s star quarterback Jake McRee Friday night in the 2AA playoff opener in Maiden.
McRee threw for 211 yards on 13-of-18 passing and five scores to lead the Blue Devils to the 35-0 shutout victory to abruptly end the Falcons’ turnaround season.
Maiden came out firing despite a steady rain, scoring three times less than a minute into the second quarter to grab a quick 21-0 lead.
The Falcons had a chance at points late in the half, driving to the 3-yard line. But a fourth-down half-back pass from Jordan Sawyers fell incomplete in what ended up being Forbush’s best scoring chance of the game.
McRee tacked on two more scores in the third quarter to put the finishing touches on the 35-0 victory to send the Blue Devils into the second round. Maiden will take on East Lincoln.
Sawyers accounted for 122 of the Falcons’ 166 yards on the night on 25 carries. The junior finishes the season with nearly 1,500 rushing yards and nine scores.
Forbush, which came into the 2013 season with a 5-16 mark over the last two years, finished with six wins — the highest win total since 2006.
