BRYSON CITY — Top-seeded Swain County made quick work of No. 8 East Wilkes in Friday’s 1AA opener.


The Maroon Devils scored 21 points in the each of the first two quarters to take a comfortable 42-12 advantage into the break.


Swain led 56-12 after three quarters before the Cardinals scored 19 points in the fourth to make the final score more respectable, 56-31.


Chris Ward powered East’s 19-point fourth quarter with a 34-yard rushing score and a 45-yard strike to Austin Pearson. Levi Ray added 114 yards on the ground and two rushing touchdowns.


The Cardinals cap the season at 1-11 with the lone win coming against county rival Wilkes Central on Senior Night.
