The Buckin’ Elks are rolling.

Elkin notched its second-straight mercy-rule victory of the postseason Saturday at Grissom Stadium, blasting Swain County 9-0 in the second round of the 1A soccer state playoffs.

The Elks opened the game with a 3-0 scoring burst in the first four minutes of the contest, building a commanding five-goal lead at the break.

Elkin tacked on four more goals after halftime to end the game courtesy of the nine-goal mercy rule.

Leading the charge was senior Jose Rojas, who blasted home three goals and assisted on another. Senior Daniel Cortes recorded two goals and three assists, while Erick Chimal added a pair of goals.

Senior Drew Shinkle tacked on another goal with Dante Sanchez rounding out the scoring with the ninth tally.

Senior Jesus Rivera was lights-out in goal, stopping all six shots he faced for the shutout.

The Elks (13-9-2) advanced to the third round of the postseason with the dominating win, and will take on Highlands (21-3-1) Wednesday on the road.

The Highlanders have beaten Cherryville (5-1) and Blue Ridge (6-0) to make it to the third round.

The match-up is slated for 6 p.m.
