RONDA — It took 11 weeks but East Wilkes finally found the win column.

And besting in-county rival and defending conference champion Wilkes Central only made the victory sweeter.

The Cardinals scored 15 fourth-quarter points to battle back against Wilkes Central Friday on Senior Night to win 29-21 to notch their first win of the season.

Senior tailback Jathan Sales led the charge in his final home game, rushing for three touchdowns, while Omar Everette tacked on the last score.

East Wilkes improved to 1-9 on the season with the win and 1-5 in the Mountain Valley Conference. Central dropped to 1-9 and 1-5 with the loss.

The Cards return to the field Friday against another Wilkes County rival in West Wilkes (2-8, 0-6) looking for their second win to help their case in the upcoming 1A state playoffs.
