ELKIN — Three area soccer squads earned berths into the upcoming state playoffs, the North Carolina High School Athletic Association announced Monday.

The Buckin’ Elks, who brought home the 1A Mountain Valley Conference title after posting a 11-9-2 mark overall and 9-4-1 mark in league play, secured the third seed in the West bracket.

Elkin kicks off postseason play tonight at home against 14th seed Hayesville (1-10-2).

Starmount capped a solid 5-11-3 campaign by earning the No. 12 seed in the West region. The Rams will open the playoffs on the road against Community School of Davidson (11-1-2) tonight.

After tallying 14 wins in its first season in the Western Piedmont Conference, Forbush earned the No. 12 seed in the West/Midwest region.

The Falcons will open against 21st-ranked Forest Hills (10-10) at home tonight.

All three teams closed the regular season with wins to head into the postseason with momentum.

On Senior Night, the Elks knocked off North Wilkes 4-1 last Wednesday.

Frank Sanchez headed home a corner kick four minutes into the game to put Elkin on the board in a hurry. But an own-goal 10 minutes later evened the score.

Senior Daniel Cortes put the Elks ahead for good late in the half when he fired home a shot from the 18 for a 2-1 advantage.

Sanchez tacked on a second goal midway through the second half before senior Jose Rojas added the final tally to celebrate his final home game, giving Elkin a 4-1 victory.

Starmount celebrated Senior Night with a big 6-1 triumph over East Wilkes.

The Rams scored five goals in the first half to easily top the Cards in the regular-season finale.

Senior Juan Noveron found the back of the net twice, while Nathan Walker posted a goal on his Senior Night. Luis Pedraza, Collin Benfield and Bryan Jimenez rounded out the scoring for Starmount.

Freshman Spencer Kranz scored East’s lone goal.

Forbush routed Western Piedmont Conference opponent North Surry 9-0 to end the regular season with a bang last Wednesday night.
