Area football squads return to the field tonight in Week Seven with Mountain Valley Conference action in full swing.

Highlighting the night around the Yadkin Valley is Homecoming Night in Elkin.

The Buckin’ Elks (3-2, 0-1), coming off a tough loss to Starmount in last week’s Battle of the Bridge, return home to the friendly confounds of Grissom Stadium tonight against first-place North Wilkes, complete with homecoming festivities.

Following a parade through downtown, Elkin will square off with the Vikings (4-1, 1-0), who are averaging 43.0 points per game. North comes into the game sitting in sole possession of first place after winning back-to-back shootouts against North Surry (35-34) and East Wilkes (49-32) in its last two games.

In Millers Creek, Starmount (3-2, 1-0) hits the field tonight against West Wilkes on the heels of two straight rivalry-game victories over Forbush and Elkin.

The Blackhawks (2-3, 0-1) head into the match-up following back-to-back heart-breaking losses to Walkertown and Wilkes Central, respectively, looking for their first league win.

In Ronda, the Cardinals host Alleghany still searching for their first win of any kind this season.

East Wilkes (0-5, 0-1) has dropped five tough games, despite playing close in each. The Cards could not keep up with the potent North Wilkes offense last week, falling in Hays.

Alleghany (2-3, 0-1) saw Ashe County reel off 28 straight points to win last week.

In West Jefferson, the Huskies (2-3, 1-0) meet Wilkes Central (0-4, 1-0), who picked up its first win of the season last week in its conference opener, to round out MVAC play on the night.

Out of conference, Forbush returns to the gridiron after its bye week tonight against power East Surry in its non-conference finale.

The Falcons, who already have surpassed last season’s win total at 3-2, are looking to hand the Cardinals (4-1) just their second loss this season.

All games kick off at 7:30 p.m.
