JONESVILLE — The Jonesville Town Council will meet today at 7 p.m. in its regular meeting to discuss a proposal from Friends of the Jonesville Greenway, an amendment to a noise ordinance, and a declaration of surplus property.


Jonesville Town Manager Scott Buffkin said Chairperson of the Friends of the Greenway Pat Benton will propose the establishment of a thrift store in the old fire station. Buffkin said profits will be used to make improvements and/or additions to the Jonesville Greenway. Buffkin said they will be watching to see how much attention the subject draws.


In the amendment to the noise ordinance topic, the town will discuss the prohibition of the use of compression release engine brakes. commonly known as “jake breaks.” Buffkin said a local business person complained the type of breaksused by trucks rattled the windows of his business. Buffkin said the ordinance is commonly used by communities across the state but added that there will be exceptions made in emergencies.


Finally, the council will discuss town property foreclosures and authorize the sale and advertisement of these properties to the public. The local properties are: 208 Carr St., 114 Osborne St., 115 Foster St.; and 416 W. Main St.


Buffkin said the agenda will be shorter than usual due to it being the first since the holidays.
