To the editor,

Recent statements about Britain’s healthcare system (National Health Service, NHS) have been adduced to support a similar system in the US. I should like to politely refute some of these statements.

(1) A rationed system such as Britain’s and Canada’s tends to undertest. Some of us recall the death of Liam Neeson’s wife in Canada following a skiing accident; Government rationing prevented a head CT.

(2)Healthcare outcomes are not remarkably similar between US and UK.. Aggregate breast cancer survival, for example, is much better in the US..

(3)If NHS is so beloved in UK, why have 7 million Britons opted to pay privately for Medical Insurance while they are already insured by their Government?

(4) Surely the most damning information about NHS is the 18 week waiting period. Many serious diseases will have become much less treatable in that interval.
