Many Elkin High School students were thrilled when Dominoes pizza slices appeared for sale in the cafeteria at the beginning of the school year.

In order to entice more students with cafeteria offerings, cheese and pepperoni pizza is sold on Tuesdays and Thursdays every week for two dollars a slice.

Cafeteria Manager Penny Lloyd said, “Ordering pizza has not affected the price of school lunch and has actually made the lunchroom worker’s jobs a little easier.”

This most recent change has also sparked the attention of the students because more students actually purchase lunch than they did in past years.

Every year the staff makes changes based on nutrition value and evaluates menus based on what students buy most often. Last year the school offered sparkling juice beverages called “The Switch,” but this year they have brought in Snapple along with the Gatorade that’s already available.

Since the cafeteria sells no soft drinks of any kind, the new drink choice was another change favored by students.

The addition of Dominoes pizza fulfills Lloyd’s quest to provide healthy, filling meals and the students’ wish for great-tasting food.

Elkin student Aaron Harless said, “If there was one highlight to my day, it would be getting Dominoes pizza for lunch on Tuesdays and Thursdays.”
