‘Bath salts’ and other narcotics lead to four arrests

Four drug manufacturers were arrested Sunday morning as Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a disturbance call.


Mary Grace Pittman, 19, Theophilus “Theo” Lee Hicks, Jr., 27, Gray Allen Spaugh, 28, and Jennifer Nicole Fain, 31, were arrested, according to a press release from the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office.


Mickey Boyles of the Sheriff’s Office said the arrests were made between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m.


All of the arrested were from Yadkinville.


Pittman was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a drug dwelling.


Pittman was also charged with a warrant from another county for assault. She was released on a secured bond of $25,000.


Hicks, Jr. was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and maintaining a drug dwelling.


Hicks was listed in the Yadkin County Detention Center under a $10,000 secured bond.


Spaugh was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule I controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resist, obstruct and delay of an officer, disorderly conduct by using profanity, and maintaining a drug dwelling.


Spaugh was listed in the Yadkin County Detention Center under a $50,000 secure bond.


Fain was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule I controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule IV controlled substance, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver a Schedule VI controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, resist, obstruct and delay of an officer, assault on an officer by “spitting”, maintaining a drug dwelling and malicious conduct by a prisoner.


Fain was in the Yadkin County Detention Center under a $75,000 secure bond.


Deputies responded to a disturbance call at an apartment complex on Center Road in Yadkinville and were met by the occupants of the apartment when they arrived.


Their investigation revealed “various narcotics” throughout the residence.


After securing the residence, a a search warrant was executed and several different drugs were found that led to the arrest of four people staying at the apartment.


The search warrant turned up various narcotics including prescription medications, marijuana, and mephedrone, also known as “Bath Salts.”


Bath Salts and other compounds containing bath salts recently have been added to the North Carolina Controlled Substance Act as a “Scheduled I” controlled substance because of their dangerous side effects and deaths that have occurred with those types of drugs.
