The sweet smell of fresh eclairs, cream puffs, cake balls, and an assortment of cupcakes will hit Main Street and will be for sale starting on Friday.
Main Street Pastry, a small family-owned bakery, announced a grand opening at 10 a.m. The bakery will also have extended hours this Saturday to accommodate cruisers.
The bakery is located at 209 E. Main St.
The bakery sits directly in front of The Tribune’s office.
“That’s what we do. We’re baking the good stuff, especially the sweet stuff,” said proprietor Mitzi Jenkins Brickey.
“I have cinnamon rolls too, fresh brownies, muffins, a wide variety of cookies, parfaits, and even churros. Look out for my pies too. They’re coming,” she said.
The baker also stated that she’ll be selling specialty cakes for parties and special events like weddings.
“You can even buy a piece of cake by the slice.”
Brickey grew up in Jenkinstown. She is married to Boyd Brickey. Her children are Jessica (28), James (19), and Justus (16).
“The entire family is involved in the business,” said Brickey, who gave an inside clue to the techniques used to put an operation together.
“Southern women just have this thing about their dish, their food, and my family knows it. A lot of recipes come from my church friends over the years, my family, and my husband’s grandmother’s original cookbook. Her book is several inches thick. It’s great stuff.
“I’ve worked long enough in the bakery business to know that I wanted to do my own pastry business. This also fits my personality better than a restaurant. Like my grandmother Gladys, I’m slow and steady. I’m here for the long haul,” said Brickey.
In addition to Main Street Pastry, another bakery on Main Street will soon open at 122 W. Main St. Brickey confirmed that owners of By Design, a bakery and coffee shop, are in-law related to the Brickey family.
