More options available at Elkin Farmer’s Market
The Elkin Farmer’s Market is becoming the cream of the crop of late.
“The market used to have 6-8 vendors. This year it grew to 14, and I was thrilled. Then, last Saturday it had 20,” said an enthusiastic Laura Gaylord, Main Street and community manager for the Town of Elkin.
That’s a record high, according to the Town of Elkin.
“We had live music, but this weekend we are planning for live music again,” said Gaylord.
The market is open every Saturday, rain or shine.
Bandit’s Roost is scheduled to play on Saturday, July 20. Other bands willing to play for fun, fame, and tips are being solicited.
Vendors start selling to the general public from 9 a.m. to noon.
The Elkin Farmer’s Market runs from mid-April to the end of September, with the last market day ending with the Pumpkin Festival.
“We have coffee vendors, fresh baked goodies, fruits, veggies, organic meat, handmade soaps, some crafts (leatherworks), and plants and herbs. We had over 200 people come last weekend to the market. It was amazing,” Gaylord said.
The increase in vendors is based on a collaboration by the Elkin Main Street Advisory Board, a group of members who felt it was important to “market the market” and set aside funding this year for directional signs and market bags.
“One thing we do is offer a market frequent visitor card, and after getting your card stamped after 5 visits to the market, you get a free market bag. We also sell beautiful canvas bags with our Elkin Farmers Market logo on them for only $5,” said Gaylord.
The bags are also for sale at Yadkin Valley General Store, Diana’s Bookstore and the Chamber of Commerce.
