YADKINVILLE — Booster volunteers for the Forbush High School band are asking the community to show some spirit by helping its band raise some necessary cash.

“It becomes difficult as the years pass by and band members are playing worn out instruments and wearing uniforms that are more than 10 years old,” said Sandra Overby of the booster club.

To help offset some of the costs associated with replacing instruments and uniforms, Dewey’s Bakery of Winston-Salem has partnered with the Forbush Marching Band Boosters Organization to open a Dewey’s Bakery Fundraising Store in Yadkinville during the holiday season.

The new store is located at 246 E. Main St. in Yadkinville.

Through the years, the Band Boosters, a nonprofit organization, has tried several different fundraising methods, selling products door-to-door, yard sales and chicken plate dinners.

However, Overby said the cost of uniforms run about $30,000. Add new equipment and the costs increase further.

According to the boosters, 35 percent of the profit from the store will go back to the booster organization.

Clate and Josie Wingler, owners of the store location in Yadkinville, are allowing the Boosters to use their space free of rent.

Band members, parents and grandparents will be running the store. The store’s hours are Nov. 15-Dec 24 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday. On Dec. 15 and 22, the store will be open from 2 to 6 p.m.
