Taco Bell bolted from its Bridge Street location and headed south, but not quite to the border.
The national fast food store moved to a new building located at 551 CC Camp Road directly in front of Walmart.
According to the Surry County Building Inspection department in Dobson, Taco Bell was issued a building permit back in February to construct a new building.
Eight months later, the fast food giant opened its doors in its new digs.
“We’re super excited about our opening,” said Store Manager Brittney Porter. “Though it’s only one week, we’ve already seen an increase in sales in our new home.”
According to management, all employees have transitioned and have been offered jobs at the new location.
“We even hired a few additional employees,” said Porter.
The new Taco Bell has brand new cooking equipment. Employees were observed familiarizing themselves with the new system.
“I like the location,” said Jenny Carter of Elkin. “It’s a better location. I always shop at Walmart and would only drive to the Taco Bell if I was going to Belk.”
“My only complaint is the tough squeeze it takes to pull around the parking lot,” said Richard White of Wilkesboro who was in Elkin visiting Carter. “The lane should be bigger.”
The CC Camp Taco Bell will keep the same hours at its new location; 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. each day. The store stays open until midnight on Friday and Saturday.
The shift to the new location by Taco Bell is following a trend of other fast food retail giants.
Only a short walking distance away from the old Taco Bell used to be a McDonald’s, which also jumped ship from North Bridge Street for a new CC Camp Road location.
After McDonald’s abandoned its old quarters, the building remained vacant for years.
The vacancy of the old Taco Bell creates a similar challenge for RidgeView Crossings Shopping Center, the same mall that has Belk serving as its major anchor store
