Man charged with assault by strangulation
Two suspects arrested at Elk Court Apartments

Ricky Lynn Billings, 58, Elkin, was arrested by the Elkin Police Department on Sept. 12 and charged with assault by strangulation.
The incident occurred at the Elk Court Apartments in downtown Elkin.
Police say during a dispute, Billings became irate and grabbed his victim by the throat and pushed the victim up against a wall.
“Billings then threw the victim to the floor continuing to choke her,” stated Captain Kim Robison of the Elkin Police Department.
The victim informed officers at the scene that Billings had continuously punched her in the face. The victim stated to police that she lost consciousness for a moment.
Billings was transported to the Surry County Magistrate’s office. Bond was set at $5000 secured.
During the assault investigation, and with assistance from the Jonesville Police Department, a Wilkesboro resident was also arrested on a drug-related charge.
According to the Elkin Police Department, Shawn David Augdahl, 34, was charged with resisting arrest, obstruction and delay, simple possession, possession of paraphernalia, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and delivery marijuana, and felony possession of marijuana.
“During their investigation into the assault, officers found numerous smoking devices, rolling papers, metal plant grinders and marijuana seeds,” said Captain Robison.
Augdahl was transported to the Surry County Magistrate’s office. Bond was set at $5,000 secured.
