JONESVILLE — The owner of Insane Dwayne’s in Elkin was charged by the Yadkin County Sheriff’s Office for allegedly writing a worthless check.

According to police, Dwayne Edward Brown, 53, of Jonesville, was charged on March 24 with one count of felony worthless check.

Police say Brown had written a check to a food services company in Linwood and he allegedly did not have the funds in his account to cover the check. The incident occurred in the fall of 2013. Brown never responded to attempts to make contact from the food services company.

Brown was given an unsecured $1,000 bond with a court date of May 20.

Insane Dwayne’s, an eatery located at 961 N. Bridge St. recently closed its doors.

The cafeteria-style restaurant was placed in C-status on March 14 by the Surry County Environmental Health Department.

“It means it’s closed for unknown reasons. I visited at 10 a.m. and it wasn’t open,” said John Watts, environmental health specialist. “The restaurant can stay in that status for up to a year.”
