SCC offering two new certificate courses

DOBSON — Surry Community College is offering two new certificate courses beginning in the fall — Trucking Operations Management Certificate and Spanish Language Certificate.

Surry Community College’s Business Technologies Division will give students the opportunity to obtain a Trucking Operations Management Certificate. This new certificate program consists of 18 credit hours over the course of one academic year. Coursework includes transportation, warehousing, inventory control, material handling, purchasing, computerization, supply chain operations, federal transportation and safety regulations.

Upon completion, graduates should qualify for entry-level positions in a range of supply chain and logistics positions in government agencies, manufacturing, and service organizations. Employment opportunities include entry-level distribution, planning, material management, warehousing, inventory, transportation, trucking operations, international freight, and logistics.

The new Spanish Language Certificate program is ideal for anyone who would like to become more proficient in Spanish. All of the courses applied to the certificate also can be used to help satisfy graduation requirements for the Associate in Arts and Associate in Science degrees and are part of the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement, which means these classes will be accepted at state universities if a “C” average is maintained.

This certification consists of 18 credit hours over the course of a fall, spring and summer semester, and can help to satisfy major or minor requirements at transfer institutions.
