YVUF announces scholarship winners

Kaylee Faw is recognized as the Yadkin Valley United Fund scholarship recipient for Elkin High School by Executive Director David Steelman.

David Steelman, executive director, announced the recipients of the Yadkin Valley United Fund Triple C Scholarships for 2016. This is the fifth year the scholarships have been awarded to one senior each at East Wilkes, Elkin, and Starmount high schools. Triple “C” stands for “caring” individuals who stay “committed” to giving back to the “communities” of the Yadkin Valley.

Melia Higgins was chosen from East Wilkes High School. She is the daughter of Jeff and Melissa Higgins and plans to attend Appalachian State University.

Katie St. John was chosen from Starmount High School. She is the daughter of Michael and Cathy St. John and plans to attend the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

Kaylee Faw was chosen from Elkin High School. She is the daughter of Robin Faw and plans to attend Surry Community College.

Each was awarded a $1,000 scholarship at their schools end of year awards programs.

The YVUF serves the communities of Arlington, Elkin, Jonesville, Mountain Park, Ronda, State Road, Thurmond and Traphill by providing funding for up to 30 nonprofit partner agencies as well as the three scholarships.
