Anthony Davis, North Carolina’s ASCD’s Young Educator of the Year for 2015, has been an administrator with Elkin City Schools for four years. He is leaving Elkin for a post as principal at Forbush Elementary School.

Anthony Davis, principal of Elkin Elementary School, has resigned his position effective July 10, according to Superintendent Dr. Randy Bledsoe. He has accepted the principalship of Forbush Elementary School in Yadkin County.

Davis, North Carolina’s ASCD’s Young Educator of the Year for 2015, has been an administrator with Elkin City Schools for four years. Previously, Davis was a teacher and athletic director at Forbush High School.

“I am saddened to see Mr. Davis leave our school and school family. He has been a tremendous leader for our school staff, students and our community. His energy, work ethic and leadership skills in supporting and assisting teachers to provide quality instruction each day are a major factor for the top achievement rankings our elementary school has achieved in the past few years,” said Bledsoe.

“Last year under his direction, EES led the state in various curriculum achievement categories including having the #1 ranked reading and math scores for fifth-graders in North Carolina. Mr. Davis prioritized student achievement and always based his decisions on what was in the best interest of students and staff. As a colleague in education, I wish him continued success in his career as an administrative leader,” he continued

A search to determine the next principal for Elkin Elementary School is under way. A replacement will be named in a timely manner in order to allow acclimation and transition for the administrator and staff, Bledsoe said.
