DOBSON — Surry Community College is announcing the February and March orientation dates for the High School Equivalency program or HSE, formerly known as the GED.
The HSE program allows students to earn a High School Equivalency diploma from the State Board of the North Carolina Community College System. The first orientation will be Feb. 29 with two sessions will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. at The Pilot Center, 612 E. Main St., Pilot Mountain. March 1 the orientation will be at The Elkin Center, 1461 N. Bridge St., Elkin, with two sessions being offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m.
On March 2, two sessions will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. at Jones Family Resource Center, 215 Jones School Road, Mount Airy. On March 3, two sessions will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. at The Yadkin Center, 4649 Highway 601, Yadkinville. On March 8, two sessions will be offered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. at Surry Community College, 630 S. Main St., Dobson.
Orientation is mandatory for new Adult Basic Education/HSE students and students returning after six months. Students need to attend only one orientation session. A student release form is required for all students 16 or 17 years old and can be picked up at the main campus in Dobson, the college’s centers in Elkin, Pilot Mountain, and Yadkinville, and the Jones Family Learning Center in Mount Airy.
