Surry sets high school equivalency fall orientation dates


DOBSON — Surry Community College is announcing orientation dates for the High School Equivalency program or HSE, formerly known as GED.

The HSE program allows students to earn a High School Equivalency diploma from the State Board of the North Carolina Community College System. The orientation dates are as follows: Jan. 4, at The Pilot Center, 612 E. Main St., Pilot Mountain; Jan. 5, at The Elkin Center, 1461 N. Bridge St., Elkin; Jan. 6, at the Jones Family Resource Center, 215 Jones School Road, Mount Airy; Jan. 7, at The Yadkin Center, 4649 Highway 601, Yadkinville; and Jan. 12 at the Learning Center, Surry Community College, 630 S. Main St., Dobson. Each date will have two sessions: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. There also will be sessions in February and March.

Orientation is mandatory for new Adult Basic Education/HSE students and students returning after six months. Students need to attend only one orientation session. A student release form is required for all students 16 or 17 years old and can be picked up at the main campus in Dobson, the college’s centers in Elkin, Pilot Mountain, and Yadkinville, and the Jones Family Learning Center in Mount Airy.
